Grover L. Rawlings

Grover L. Rawlings Grover L. Rawlings recent former resident of Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island passed away peacefully at age 96 years on May 31, 2016 in Lake Mary, Florida with family and Hospice in attendance. Born on March 12, 1920 he graduated from the University of Utah in 1942 and joined the US Navy during WWII as a "90 day wonder" officer candidate. He fought to secure our freedom in two declared wars (WWII , Korea), in the cold war with the Soviet Union and was in the front ranks of the South Pacific Project Ivy H-bomb test which secured our nation's nuclear capability to the present day. He retired at the rank of Captain after a distinguished war and peace time career. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement at Hilton Head which included many friends, trips, golf, tennis (his second love) and of course Jane his first and only love and wife of 74 years. A loving husband and generative father he is survived by his wife Jane W. Rawlings his sons Jim and Grover Jr, their wives Lisa and Maria and his grandchildren Adam, Sarah and Vanessa. Funeral services will be announced at a later date when both Grover and Jane's lives will be celebrated. Any remembrances, cards, etc. should be addressed to Jane W.
