Hilton Head, South Carolina - Hugh S. Cummins Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 92. He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, to the late Hugh Sterling and Ella C. (Harris) Cummins Loving husband to his late wife, Betsey (Buchheit) Cummins; father of Tracy (Jeffrey) Cummins Morrow, Hugh Sterling "Beau" Cummins III, and Cameron (Ana) Cummins; grandfather of Grace Cummins, Ian Cummins, Caroline Cummins, Andrew Bensch, Daniel (Alison) Bensch, and Matthew (Erica) Bensch; great-grandfather of Ryan Bensch; brother of the late Gordon and Irwin Cummins; father-in-law to the late Deborah Taft Cummins; and loyal partner to Mary Jo Meyer in his later years.

Hugh was raised in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Duke University, during which he honorably served in the U.S. Army as part of Operation Teapot. His work brought him to Cincinnati, where he and Betsey raised their family and were longtime residents of Kenwood and Indian Hill. They established their second home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where Hugh spent the last 20 winters avoiding the cold.

Hugh had a commanding presence and a passion for golf that he carried throughout his life. He will be remembered for his loyalty, boisterous laugh, headstrong personality, liberal use of the English language, and ability to make friends everywhere he went. Known as Hugh to many, Hugo to some, and Juice to a few, he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

An event to celebrate Hugh's life will be held August 2nd at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio from 4-7 p.m.
