John Pollitzer Obituary

John Duval Pollitzer John "Johnny" Duval Pollitzer, Jr., was born November 29, 1946, in Beaufort, South Carolina, to John "Jack" and Antoinette "Toni" Pollitzer. He passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness of COVID 19 in Tallahassee, Florida, on August 4, 2020. Mr. Pollitzer is survived by his beloved wife Marie Litchfield (formerly of Beaufort) of Crawfordville, Florida. He is also survived by two sons, SFC Ryan Pollitzer stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Washington and son MSG (retired U.S. Army) Christopher Pollitzer, wife Holly, of Jupiter, Florida. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Aiden Pollitzer and Chris McCorquodale (USAF) and three step grandchildren, Kyla Bobo, Paul Sullivan, and John Sullivan. Other family members include brother-in-law Dennis (wife Dale) Litchfield of Crawfordville, Florida, sister-in-law Brenda Litchfield (husband Jack Dempsey) of Mobile, Alabama. Pollitzer family members include cousins Richard (Anne) Pollitzer of St. Helena Island, Henry ("Bo") Pollitzer of Hilton Head, Suzanne Pollitzer Merck of Landrum, Judy (Webb) Trask of Beaufort, Carroll Easterling of Spartanburg, and Christian (Harriott) Pollitzer of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Funeral services with full military honors will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. conducted by the Reverend Shay Gilliard, Rector of the Parish Church of St. Helena. Friends and family members are required to wear face masks and be social distanced due to COVID 19. Funeral services will be lived streamed for those unable to attend. Mr. Pollitzer served as a Health Services Technician (medic) and Search and Rescue (SAR) in the United States Coast Guard while stationed at Chincoteague, Virginia. This training lead his to becoming a member of the Beaufort County Emergency Management Services, joining December 13, 1976 and remaining as A-Shift Supervisor until retirement July 9, 2009. Johnny Pollitzer will always be remembered by this kindheartedness, dry sense of humor, being helpful to those during their time of need, enjoying his South Carolina Gamecocks during football season, and for his love of "all things Beaufort." Mr. Pollitzer's passing left soft spots in the hearts of many Beaufortonians, especially in the heart of his best friend Samuel (Anne) McGowan III. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to: Hilton Head Humane Association 10 Humane Way Hilton Head, SC 29926
