Julius Kern Obituary

Julius George Kern Julius George "Jules" Kern, 82 of Beaufort, South Carolina, formerly of Locust Valley, New York, died peacefully on January 22, 2010. Preceded in death by his wife, Jaclyn Tappen Kern, "Jules" is survived by his son, Walter Ryder "Beau" and his grandsons, Kyle Williamson and Benjamin Tappen and daughter in-law, Leslie of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. "Jules" was born in Mineola, NY, son of Julius G Kern and Jane Camman. He graduated Bucknell University and served as Corporal in the U.S 60th Army Air Force receiving an Honorable Discharge. In his professional life, Jules worked over 40 years in heavy construction machinery business throughout the East Coast and Southeast, spending much of that time working for Caterpillar Tractor Company. Prior to his retirement in 1991, Jules was Vice President at George Malvese & Co. on Long Island, NY. Jules was a Life Supporter of Ducks Unlimited, Boy Scouts of America and Bucknell University. There will be a Memorial service for Jules on Friday, January 29th at 11am, 94 Heronwyck Plantation Drive, Beaufort, SC. and a Memorial Service at St. John's of Lattingtown at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to Alzheimer's Association, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407. Arrangements are made by Copeland Funeral Service of Beaufort.
