February 10, 1934 - December 11, 2020
Beaufort, South Carolina - Mrs. Marian Kessler Lipton passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 after a prolonged illness.
Born in Columbia, SC in 1934, Marian lived in Beaufort for more than fifty years. She was an active member of Beth Israel Congregation, lending her talents to the ladies' auxiliary and the religious school throughout the years. She also volunteered with a number of local agencies, ranging from wildlife conservation to literacy advocacy. In recent years, she could be found volunteering with Beaufort County's Tabby House cat adoption center, giving and receiving comfort from cats waiting for their forever homes.
Marian was an avid reader, bird watcher, and in later years, world traveler. In retirement, she embraced adventure and visited Peru, Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland, the Wild West, and many more, often bringing a grandchild along for company. More than anything, she wanted to leave a legacy of curiosity in her children and grandchildren, curiosity about other people, other experiences and how we all fold into one world. She always challenged her friends and family to dig deeper on issues and was known to be a lively debater when given the chance.
Marian is survived by her sons, Marcus (Marie) Lipton and Richard (Marcie) Lipton, her grandchildren, Amanda (Bill) Hamilton and Ben (Kelsey) Lipton, and three cherished great grandchildren, Aubee Kate and Hudson Lipton, and Eliza Hamilton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Lipton, and her eldest son, Joseph Lipton.
A private service will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery in Beaufort.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the South Carolina Alzheimer's Association in Marian's memory.
