Marianne Yahres Obituary

Marianne E. Yahres Marianne Elizabeth Yahres (Ellis), 95 of Beaufort, South Carolina, formerly of Coraopolis, PA and widow of Samuel Charles Yahres, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Morningside of Beaufort Assisted Living. Born in Dunbarton, South Carolina, she was the ninth and youngest child of the late and former South Carolina State Legislator, Dr. Ephraim Washington Ellis, and the late Mabel Ellis (Heath). She graduated from Dunbarton High School in 1936. After her father died in January 1937, she and her mother moved to Greenville, SC where she worked as an administrative assistant at Thomas and Howard. It was during that time she met her husband of 63 years at a dance at the Sears and Roebuck Hut. Sam was serving with the 463rd Army Air Corp Band while also playing piano at the Hut as well as an evening radio program on WFBC. After Sam was reassigned, a long distance relationship ensued that led to the eventual publication and national distribution of the romantic operetta Marianne by Lorenz Publishing Company. The operetta became a popular hit and was performed in high schools across the United States in the late 40's and early 50's. They eventually married in 1948 in Meyers Mills, SC at the home Marianne's oldest brother, Albert Ellis. The wedding was officiated by her youngest brother, Rev. Archie Ellis. Mrs. Yahres settled in Coraopolis and was an active member of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church where she assisted with Children's Sunday School, Woman's Fellowship Group, and Bible Study. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed collecting antiques, refinishing furniture, and preparing delicious holiday dinners for large family gatherings. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her four children, always giving, always loving, and always singing songs of joy and inspiration. Surviving are daughter Barbara Allen of Coraopolis, PA, Samuel Yahres of Bethel Park, PA, son Charles Yahres (Carmella) of Beaufort, SC, and daughter Marianne Fusco (Tom) of Palm Coast, FL, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
