Marie Kix

Bluffton, South Carolina - Marie Rose (Vaccarino) Kix, 89, died on August 6, 2023, in Bluffton, South Carolina after a long and colorful life. Marie was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 1, 1934, to parents Anna (Henkel) and John Vaccarino. She was raised on Long Island and attended Hempstead High School, she married Frederick Edmund Kix on January 30, 1954, in West Hempstead, NY.
The ultimate matriarch, Marie had 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She brought her vivacious laugh, sweet singing voice and enviable dancing everywhere she went, be it large family gatherings or simply, her day-to-day life. In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Marie attracted friends everywhere she went with her larger-than-life personality. She even adopted the nicknames "Mama Kix" and "Mama Mia," given to her by the legions of unrelated friends and fans who wanted Marie to be their grandma too.
Marie worked in healthcare until she was 74 years old and lived her golden years in Florida where she thrived listening to music, reading, taking her daily walks, and playing card and dice games. She could beat anyone at a game of Yahtzee. She enjoyed traveling all around the country to visit her kids, grandkids and great grandkids and would hop on a plane just to watch a sports game or dance recital.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her children; Deborah McGrory, Frederick (June) Kix, John Kix, Annmarie (Frank) Trent, Theresa Kix (Sharon Versyp), Lorraine (Tommy) Houlihan and Lisa (Jimmy) Rountree, grandchildren; Sean McGrory, Jennifer (Eric) Cooper, Danielle (Jared) McGill, Jillian Trent, Frankie Trent, Justin (Becky) Kix, Dillon (Dawn) Kix, Ryan Houlihan (Jonathan Yantz), Alex Houlihan, Thomas Houlihan and Samantha Cicillini, and great-grandchildren; Emma McGrory, Jimmy and Brooklyn Almeida, Gwendolyn Cooper, Quinn and Clae McGill, Brayden and Kolbe Kix, and Daphne Kix.
A funeral mass will be held on Long Island on September 9, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Church in Wading River at 11 am followed by a private celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to "Marie's Angels," a private fund that will directly support the Healthcare workers that Marie loved dearly and were so crucial to her care and comfort in her final years. Donations can be made via GoFundMe here:
