Mark Littlejohn

Mark H. Littlejohn, M.D. Mark H. Littlejohn, M.D., a resident of Blowing Rock, NC and Hilton Head Island, SC, died at age 82 Monday, October 29, 2018 after a long illness. Mark was both brilliant and creative. A pioneer of Nuclear Medicine with the soul of a painter and the mind of scientist, he demonstrated resourceful, inventive, and artistic talents. He was well-known for his love of music, art, sculpture, books, wine, and food. A great conversationalist and excellent cook, Mark et al., hosted many an evening deck sitting or by the fire, encouraging folks to stay and socialize while it was still, as he would say "the shank of the evening"! He cherished his family and friends as we cherished him. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karla McGinnis; his sweet dog Jessie; his son Hays Littlejohn and his wife Simone, and their children Emma, Sophia, and Rosa; daughter Sara Littlejohn and her partner Ben Ramsey; son Brad Schwartz and his wife Becca Lynn, and their children Saylor and Murphy; his sister Mimi Littlejohn Rounds; and nephew Morgan Klein and his wife Courtney, and their children Garrett, Sawyer, and Graham. He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Littlejohn Daane, father Maurice Littlejohn, and grandson Jenson Plachy. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to your favorite NPR station, though as Mark, would say, "nothing is required."
