Meta Cantey Boykin RoseMeta Cantey Boykin ("Pete") Rose, 86 died 5th day of June 2011, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she has lived for the last 9 years at The Cypress. She was born December 18, 1924 in Boykin, South Carolina, the daughter of Meta Cantey Boykin and Bolivar De Saussure Boykin. She grew up in Camden and graduated from St Mary's School, Raleigh, North Carolina, attended The University of South Carolina. She loved hunting, fishing, travel and was a licensed pilot. Prior to moving to Hilton Head Island in 2001, she lived in Boykin with her late husband, William Shepard Rose. From 1967 to 1981 she lived in Middletown, Ohio, in Paris, France from 1964 to 1967, Genoa, Italy from 1954 to 1964, Paris, France from 1951 to 1954. She was a lifetime Board member of the Boykin Spaniel Society. She was on the Altar Guild of the Grace Episcopal Church, Camden, and Ascension Episcopal Church, Middletown. She was a Garden Club member in Middletown and Camden. She was a supporter with her late husband of the Camden Arts Center, and was a member of the Huguenot and Jamestowne Societies. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and a brother, Lemuel Whitaker Boykin, II. She is survived by her son, William S. Rose, Jr. (Frances) of Hilton Head Island, Bolivar De Saussure Boykin Rose (Margot) of Charleston, and Meta Rose Boyd (Bill) of Baltimore, and grandchildren, Katherine Rose Trotter (John Scott), W. Shepard Rose, III, Whitaker B. Rose, W. Bradford Boyd, M. Cantey Boyd, Edward H. Boyd, and Sarah Janney Rose, and great granddaughter, Frances Rose Trotter. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory on Hilton Head Island is in charge of arrangements. Her final resting place will be at the Quaker Cemetery, Camden, South Carolina, where a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Camden Archives and Museum, 1314 Broad Street, Camden, South Carolina 29020, or The Boykin Spaniel Society, P.O. Box 2047, Camden, South Carolina 29020.

Just heard of your mother's death. We are back in Mount Pleasant and news comes late. Sad to know Dad's generation is dying out. Have fond memories of Meta and good times at her home with all the Roses in the "old" days. Thinking of you all.
