Nicholas Gerald "Jerry" Cutter, Jr., age 91, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida.
Born on July 28, 1934, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Nicholas Gerald Cutter and Mary Gruttandaurin Cutter. He graduated from high school in Morristown, NJ, then earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University. He furthered his studies at Pace College (now Pace University), Fenn College, and Cleveland State University.
During the Korean War, he served honorably in the New Jersey National Guard's 50th Armored Division, HQTS Company.
A distinguished Certified Public Accountant, Jerry specialized in U.S. and international taxation. He held various tax management roles in the railroading and manufacturing sectors, culminating in his retirement at age 57 as Assistant Treasurer and Director of Taxes and Insurance at Booz, Allen & Hamilton.
As an early and dedicated member of the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), Jerry authored taxation articles and frequently chaired TEI tax conferences. He was also affiliated with the American Institute of CPAs.
His civic and entrepreneurial spirit shone through his leadership in numerous organizations: Past President of both the Hilton Head Island chapter of UNICO and the Hilton Head Island Italian American Club, Board Director and Treasurer of Halifax Urban Ministries,,President of the Ormond Beach Heritage Condominium Association and other condominium associations, Founder and President of several small businesses, including Foreign Tax Return Translation Service, Basilone Development Co., Lightbearer Communications Co., Mount & Sea Rental Co., Mount & Sea Furniture Co., Savannah Beach Rental Co., Island Ventures, Cutters Inc., and Cutter Associates.
Jerry also produced a poignant documentary short and coauthored the only authorized family biography about his WWII hero stepuncle, Sgt. John Basilone, USMC-both titled "I'm Staying with My Boys the Heroic Life of Sgt. John Basilone, USMC." He later founded the Sgt. John Basilone Foundation.
Survived by his wife, Cecilia; children Kathy TaylorHarris, Ellen Hartz, Stephen (Marge) Cutter, Tom Cutter, and Donal Cutter; grandchildren Michael (Alisha) Pinon, Michelle Bury, Dana Kqira, Curt Hartz, Chris (Lori) Cutter, Tommy Cutter, Sara (Chung) Wong, and Paula (Ed) Vargas, as well as many great-grandchildren.
The family will welcome friends for visitation on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home in Melbourne, Florida. Entombment will occur at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, Florida.
