Patricia Porter Obituary

Patricia Anne Porter

March 22, 1936 - May 29, 2024

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Patricia Anne Porter, 88, of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away on May 29, 2024. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert Porter for more than 64 years. Born in Lansing, Michigan, on March 22, 1936, Patricia was the daughter of the late Harold and Dolores Howard.

Patricia (Pat) graduated from Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati, OH, where she earned a nursing degree. She cherished travel, especially enjoying the multiple cruises she took with her husband, relaxing get-aways to the Biltmore Estate, and finding solace in Januarys spent in Honolulu and summers in York Beach, ME, and Hilton Head Island, SC. Her passions included antiquing, golfing, spending time with her grandchildren, walking her dog, and outings with her Alley Cat friends. She immersed herself in books, relishing time spent at the library and bookstores, eagerly seeking her next captivating story. She was an exceptional cook, and her homemade spaghetti sauce will forever hold a cherished place in her family's hearts. Each evening at 5 o'clock, she savored a glass of Pinot Grigio with two ice cubes. Some of her favorite foods included pizza with Red Stripe beer, a chocolate Wendy's frosty, and the occasional McDonald's fish filet sandwich with extra tartar sauce. She tolerated the Cincinnati Reds and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, attending multiple spring training games and college game days with her late husband. Pat will forever be remembered as the glue that kept her family together through a dozen moves, embodying incredible strength, grace, and dignity. She was also a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, SC.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Porter (Chet) of Newtown, PA; son, Timothy Porter (Johna) of Hilton Head Island, SC; and daughter, Kristie Davies (Sterling) of Columbia, SC. Patricia leaves behind six grandchildren: Alex, Nick, Porter, Kaitlin, Graydon, and Eliza. Her identical twin sister, Sandra "Sandy" Decker of Brighton, MI, her cousin Penny Peltzer (Art), and sister-in-law Pat Geiss also survive her. Pat was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Patrick Porter, and her brother, Charles "Chuck" Howard.

The family expresses gratitude to Tom and Mike Gardner, along with their spouses, for facilitating the twin sisters' close contact over the years. They are also thankful for the warm welcome provided by her new friends at The Seabrook on Hilton Head Island during the last nine months of her life. Additionally, they extend heartfelt thanks to the ER, ICU, and hospice care team at Hilton Head Hospital, especially Dr. Kazmierski, for their exceptional support.

Per Pat's wishes, a private funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, SC, followed by entombment in the Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Patricia Porter.
