Phyllis Dannecker Combs

November 17, 1942 - April 9, 2024

Bluffton, South Carolina - Phyllis Dannecker Combs passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by her devoted family. Her enduring spirit and zest for life left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.

Born to a loving family, Phyllis's early years were filled with happiness and joy. She met and married the love of her life, Ron, embarking on a remarkable journey of 60 years together. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Cheryl and Doug, who were the center of her world.

Phyllis embraced the challenges and adventures of being a military wife with grace and resilience, supporting her husband through 25 years of his service in the Air Force. Her passion for education and nurturing young minds led her to a rewarding career in teaching, where she dedicated 20 years to inspiring her students.

Beyond her professional life, Phyllis was known for her generous spirit and commitment to volunteering, such as being a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout den mother, and serving in the Junior Women's League.

Phyllis delighted in hosting gatherings for friends and family, creating memorable experiences filled with laughter and love. Her adventurous nature also saw her exploring new horizons and embracing life's journey with open arms. She and Ron loved to travel and cruise, even embarking on a world tour.

Phyllis's legacy is one of love, service, and an unyielding zest for life. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Ron; her children, Cheryl (Matt) and Doug (Becky); her grandchildren, AnnaKate (Nate), Adam, Ethan, Ashlyn, and Natalie, and the many lives she touched. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated, a testament to a life well-lived and a woman dearly loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at Riverbend Lodge in Okatie, SC, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 5th, at Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia, SC, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.

Giving, generous, and always thoughtful describe our friend, Phyllis. When she interviewed for a teaching job and decided to take another offer, she suggested that I interview with the first school. I did and got the job. Thank you, Phyllis! When our kids enrolled in SC colleges , Phyllis & Ron offered to store their things for 4 summers. Phyllis was the epitome of kindness and consideration. We were blessed to call her friend. Carolyn and Ron Bartlett
