Phyllis C. Metropol

Phyllis (Ermophile) C. Metropol COLUMBIA - Phyllis (Ermophile) C. Metropol, 80, beloved wife of Dr. Harry J. Metropol, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010, in Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital after a short illness. "Filitsa" to her friends, she was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, on May 21, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Kiriaki Constantinides. She was a graduate of Woman's College in Greensboro, NC. In 1955 she was studying for her Master's Degree in bacteriology at the University of North Carolina, when she met and married Dr. Harry J. Metropol of Duke University School of Medicine. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Harry J. Metropol; her three children and their spouses, Jeanne and Rick Haight of Hilton Head Island, John and Dr. Mary Metropol of Columbia, and Dr. Stephen and Rebekah Metropol of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily and Ehrick Haight of Hilton Head Island, Phyllis, Gabrielle and James Metropol of Columbia and Harry, Alexandra and Nicholas Metropol of Columbia. She is also survived by her sister, Despina Constantinides, of Athens, Greece, her sister-in-law, Helen Metropol Katsos, of Manning and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Metropol was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Columbia. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The burial will take place in Manning Cemetery, Manning, SC, later that afternoon. Pallbearers include Dr. Tab Thompson, John Zourzoukis, Jack G. Metropol, Mike Malone, Arthur Bambalis, Harry S. Metropol, James Z. Metropol, Nicholas S. Metropol and Ehrick K. Haight, III. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1931 Sumter St., Columbia, SC 29201.
