Robert Carli Obituary

Robert "Bob" Carli, Sr.

February 14, 1957 - June 7, 2024

Beaufort, South Carolina -

We are sad to announce the death of Robert "Bob" Carli, Sr., husband and father. He passed June 7, 2024, at MUSC surrounded by his family. Bob was born on February 14, 1957, to Louis and Patricia Carli at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He and his twin, Nancy, were the one millionth, and the one millionth and one, babies born at the hospital. Bob grew up in Chicago and then Westport, Connecticut playing baseball and football solidifying his love of the Yankees and Patriots. Bob later moved his own family to Beaufort, South Carolina in 1992.

Bob's riches lay most in the love he had for his family and friends. He was especially close to his mother, who he nicknamed "Shorty." He was also a medical marvel, who defied odds after numerous surgeries to the point that he developed a close relationship with his doctors. He cared deeply about others and was often sought out for his sage advice. Bob was friendly and funny and could find humor in almost any situation.

Bob retired as a golf superintendent who was fortunate enough to check off many bucket list items before his passing. Time spent with grandkids at ballgames, and school plays, a trip to Asiago, Italy with his wife, Ellen, a visit to The Masters with his youngest son, Michael, and a southwest tour of national parks were at the top of his list.

Bob had an insatiable curiosity and knowledge about many things. He loved cars and was partial to Valvoline oil changes and automatic car washes. Bob was an avid cyclist who proudly tallied 1,400 miles on his e-bike (pedal-assist). Besides vehicles, turf, and e-bikes, he could talk your ear off about horses, music, Native American history, and Westerns. He connected easily with people and particularly enjoyed banter about his favorite TV show Curb Your Enthusiasm.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, and his children with his first wife, Linda Dobens; Robert, Jr. (Abby), Matthew (Maggie), Jennifer, and Michael (Katherine) as well as his stepson Cameron Kelley (Erin). He is also survived by his older brother, Bill Carli (Jerrie) of San Diego, CA, and sister, Nancy Healy (Brian) of Elk Grove, CA. Bob has four grandchildren: Lucy and Tucker (Matthew), Hart (Rob), and Wade (Michael), with a fifth (Rob) to be born June 14.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Diane Kreider of Strasburg, Pennsylvania.

Bob was adored by all who knew him including his in-laws, and will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
