Roger Ramm Obituary

Roger A. Ramm, 77 of Bluffton passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 in NHC Healthcare, Bluffton. Roger is the son of a career US Navy Chief Machinist's Mate who served in both WWI and WWII. Born in Long Beach, CA in 1934 and raised in Arlington, VA, he graduated from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA in 1957 with a BA in Economics and received his ROTC Commission in the US Army at the same time. His military career began at Ft. Sill, OK. Upon graduation from the Field Artillery Officers Basic Course in 1958 he completed the US Army Ranger School, Ft. Benning GA the same year. His early working years were spent with A.O. Smith and Stewart Warner Corporations in automotive OEM sales (frames, Corvette Bodies and lighting devices) with posts in Milwaukee, Ionia, MI and Springfield, IL. In 1971 he joined a metal working firm, Custom Industries, Inc. of Greensboro, NC in textile machinery sales and marketing with his last 16 years in Charlotte as Division Manager of their commercial kitchen hood facility. Over the years he has enjoyed participation in Junior Achievement, Scouting and most recently the Make-A-Wish foundation and Trout Unlimited. Roger began with the Sun City Veterans Association as Program Chairman in 2000 and became Commander in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene H. Ramm of Bluffton; one son, Roger Lantz Ramm of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Robin (Brad) Bylenga of Greenville, SC and Tracy (Eddie) Begoon of Harrisonburg, VA; one brother, Arthur (Maureen) Hale of Sterling, VA; grandchildren, Alex Bylenga, Sam Bylenga and Lauren Bylenga and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Hartshorn. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, December 8, 2011 in the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton. I knew Roger for the past several years and was truly sorry to hear of his passing. We were in several of Sun City clubs together; his positive contributions and friendship will be missed. My condolences go out to all his family members and many friends.
