1934 - 2025
Richford, VT - Carmel Mary Langin, 91, of Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford, Vermont, entered eternal rest on July 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in May 1934 in Shirley, MA, Carmel was the beloved daughter of the late Chester and Alice (Rynn) DuGuay. Her family moved to Nahant in the late 1930s where they made their home. Carmel graduated from St. Mary's High School for Girls, where she excelled both academically and athletically, serving as captain of the women's basketball and softball teams. After graduating in 1953, she married Michael J. Langin of Lynn.
Carmel began her career as a keypunch operator for The Prudential, later becoming an instructor in both Gregg Shorthand and IBM keypunch. She and Michael settled in Nahant, where they raised their three children Brian, Christine, and Erin.
In 1979, they moved to Stoneham. Carmel then joined the newly opened Round's True Value Hardware Store. Later in life Carmel embarked on a new career in banking with Wakefield Cooperative Bank, rising to assistant manager at multiple locations before retiring in the 1990s.
Carmel and Michael then returned to Lynn. There Carmel became an active member of her high school alumni, reconnecting with lifelong friends.
In 2006, Carmel and Michael retired to Graniteville, South Carolina. They enjoyed their time in the South, volunteering in the community and cherishing their time together. After 56 years of marriage, Michael passed away in 2010. Carmel later lived near Washington, DC, before moving to managed care in northern Vermont.
Carmel will be remembered for her irrepressible sense of humor, playful spirit, and unwavering loyalty to family and friends. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Colleen Langin of Uxbridge, MA, her daughters Christine Langin of Amelia Island, FL, and Erin Langin of Jericho, VT, her six cherished grandchildren Devon Savage, Brady Langin, Declan Faris, Maxwell Penzo, Tyler Penzo and Lucas Penzo, and countless friends whose lives were brightened by her laughter and kindness.
Service Information: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11 AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant, with interment to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery alongside her beloved husband.
