Donna Barber Obituary

Donna L (McKenney) Barber, 74

Lynn - Donna L. Barber, born September 26th, 1947 in Lynn MA, sadly passed away on December 22nd at the age of 74. Donna was the daughter of the late Donald and Sophia (Golec) McKenney from Lynn, MA. Donna was born, raised and educated in Lynn, she graduated from Lynn Classical High School, class of 1965 and was retired from Woodlawn Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Everett where she worked for 15 years as a receptionist and enjoyed working activities with the residents of the rehab.

She is survived by her three children, daughters Dawn Galante and her husband William from Lynn and Tracy Barber and James Granara from Peabody and son, Billy Barber and his wife Becky from Rochester, NH. She was the grandmother to Danielle Barber and the late Kaila Barber both from Lynn. She was the sister of the late Mary Wilson, John McKenney and Francis O'Shea, all from Lynn. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was a Neil Diamond fanatic (his number one fan in her eyes) and had seen him in concert too many times to count but the best concert she attended by far was Neil's performance at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 2012. The Greek Theatre was where Neil Diamond performed 10 sold out shows back in 1972 and that concert performance was the recording for his "Hot August Night" album, her most favorite album of all time.

Her favorite time of year was winter. Her mother Sophia was born and raised in Bellows Falls VT and they would spend a lot of time there growing up. She enjoyed spending time with her cousins who still live in VT while staying at the hunting camp that her dad Donald built back in the 1960's. She loved everything about snow and her favorite saying was "Think Snow" just like her mom. Her favorite holiday was of course Christmas and she was the best at making the holiday special for our family every year, even during tough times, she always managed to make our Christmas plentiful.

While we are incredibly sad to see our mom pass on, our family takes comfort knowing that she has now joined her granddaughter Kaila in heaven. The two of them were thick as thieves, both cut from the same cloth and inseparable at times so, we find it fitting that the two of them will now spend eternity by each other's side. They are both together in heaven right now and if heaven has cars, watch out because they are driving around blasting Neil Diamond and singing at the top of their lungs. Rest easy mom, the best is yet to come.
