Dorothy Zetes Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Zetes, 96

1925 - 2021

Swampscott - Dorothy Lucille Zetes of Swampscott died on December 15, 2021, at the age of 96 while a resident of Bridges Memory Care facility in Westford, Massachusetts.

Dottie was born on December 3, 1925, in Melrose, Massachusetts to John James Murley and Mary Henrietta Brown. She was a graduate of Melrose High School and attended Simmons University in Boston.

Dottie was a devoted wife to Arthur L. Zetes to whom she was married for 58 years until his death in 2008. She respected her husband's language and culture, spending afternoons learning to cook Greek food with her mother-in-law and teaching herself and her children Greek at the kitchen table. She worked along with her husband running Bob's Famous Fried Clams in Salem, where the staff was like an extended family and the young employees would come to her for advice.

As a devout Christian, she loved raising her voice in song to praise the Lord. On any given afternoon, Dottie could be found listening to a sermon or watching her favorite crime dramas like NCIS, Bones and Blue Bloods. She was a patriot who loved to fly the stars and stripes from the porch of the family home in Swampscott.

Dottie loved her family and she is survived by her children Donna Minghelli of Palmdale, California, Anastasia Boyd of Old Lyme, Connecticut, Laura Gettler of Westford, Massachusetts, Louis Zetes of Lynn, Massachusetts and Maria Moore of Westhampton Beach, New York. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. The family will notify loved ones when a service has been scheduled.
