Edward Mahoney Obituary

Edward D. "Ted" Mahoney, Jr., 78
1945 - 2024
Nahant - Edward D. Mahoney Jr., age 78, of Nahant, died Sunday January 21. He was the husband of the late Debbie Mahoney, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Salem and raised in Nahant he was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. He graduated from St. Anselm College and received a Masters in Education from Suffolk University.
Ted began his career as a teacher and a guidance counselor in the Lynn Public Schools where he taught for 13 years. He worked as a commercial fisherman for many years until his retirement in 2017 when he stopped fishing to care for his wife Debbie. He and Debbie loved spending time together. They enjoyed trips to Maui, California and also the Amalfi Coast. They loved hosting parties and working on their garden together.
Ted had a love and passion for the ocean. He loved walking the beach every day. He had a vast knowledge of local birds and loved to teach his grandchildren about the nature in and around Nahant. Nothing brought him greater joy than the time he spent with his family and friends. He will also be remembered for his love of politics and history. He enjoyed having friends over and passionately discussing the hot news topics of the day. He had a big personality and there was no one like him.
He is survived by his three children; Joshua Mahoney and his wife Jessica, Justin Mahoney and his wife Kate, and Jade Henne and her husband Brant; four grandchildren; Cade and Chloe Mahoney and Sebastian and Tatum Henne; his brothers William Mahoney and his wife Marilyn, Brian Mahoney and his wife Deborah. He will be missed by his best friend John Moleti and his wife Sue who were by his side throughout his illness.

"Teddy was a man of the sea. As it is to so many Mahoneys, the sea was his brother. He lived on it. He lived in it. He monitored its moods and captured its beauty on film.
He was a man of Nahant, and firmly committed to the preservation of its unique place on this planet. He believed that his friends, his neighbors, their children, and grandchildren should know the stark, green, rugged beauty of East Point and the view from its heights.
With his passing, our land and the sea are altered."
