Winthrop - Ellen M. Leary of Winthrop passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers on April 20, 2025. She was 94 years old. Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Catherine (Dillon) and Joseph Dobbins. She grew up in Dorchester before moving to Winthrop in 1944. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a switchboard operator for Deloitte Accounting.
She was the devoted wife of the late Frederick E. Leary and the loving mother of Kathleen King of Lynn, Robert Leary and his wife Vivian of Falmouth, Paul Leary and his wife Patricia of Winthrop, John Leary and his wife Andrea of Marblehead and Diane Leary of Lynn. Dear sister of the late Joseph Dobbins. Cherished grandmother of Lauren Davis and her husband Kevin of Andover, Meredith King of Watertown, Ryan Leary and his wife Shannon of Marblehead and Kathryn Janssen and her husband Charles of Marblehead. Great grandmother of Owen and Andrew Davis, Jack and Tate Leary and Charlotte Janssen. Loving aunt of Robert Leary, Anne DeSimone and Daniel Dobbins.
Service Information: Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son Funeral Home 147 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:30 AM followed by a funeral mass St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 12:30 PM. Services will conclude with the interment in Winthrop Cemetery.
