I met Helen almost 50 years ago when she served on the Board of Lynn Economic Opportunity. I worked at LEO for three years. During that time there was no member of the Board who was more sincerely dedicated to the good purposes of that organization. It was in her kitchen that I met Congressman Michael Harrington and in her company that I met Governor Dukakis. But most importantly, I had met her, Helen Luongo, a woman whose good heart and dedication to serving others I have forever admired. We moved in different directions since those days but, every once in a while, her son-in-law, Armand, would keep me up to date and, I hope, carry my regards back to her. At Helen´s wake I had the immense pleasure of meeting her daughter, Mary, and could see in Mary´s beautiful smile and warm demeanor someone who was every inch her mother´s daughter. After more than four decades, in that moment, it was very like being with Helen once again

My condolences to her family and friends. She was a gift to us all.
