Herbert A. Simpson

LYNN - Mr. Herbert A. Simpson, age 103, of Lynn, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 2. He was the husband of the late Lillian O. (Erskine) Simpson, with whom he shared over 76 years of marriage.He was the son of the late Herbert G. Simpson, who was killed in WWI, and Isabelle Keating and stepfather Archie E. Keating, former district chief of the Lynn Fire Department. Both his father and stepfather were Purple Heart recipients.Mr. Simpson was the owner of Kings Lynn Bowling Lanes in Lynn and was a prominent bowler on the Lynn City League as well as the North Shore Pro League. He was a former machinist and foreman in many Lynn shoe businesses. Herb served as chief steward in many unions of those shops and was also chief steward of the Prime Manufacturing Co. in Lynn, before leaving to run the family business.He was a communicant of St. Pius V Church in Lynn for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and charter member of the Shoe City Golf League. Herb was also an avid Red Sox fan.Herb leaves behind his two children, Herbert A. Simpson Jr. and his wife Teresa of Lynn, and his daughter Barbara L. Allen of Ipswich. He was the father-in-law of the late Maynard Allen of Ipswich. He also leaves seven grandchildren, James Simpson and his wife Debra and Trynda Clark, all of Lynn, Mark Simpson of Salem, Julie Webber and her husband Paul of Baltimore, Md., Michael Allen and his wife Maria of Salem, and John and Patricia Allen of Ipswich. He also leaves 12 great-grandchildren, Teresa, Thomas, Eric, Gina and Kayla Simpson, Charlie and Natalie Clark, Donna Perry, Samantha-Jo Webber, Jonathan and Emma Allen, and Sarah Richter; and two great-great-granddaughters, Laura Simpson of Lynn and Kaleigh Simpson of Marblehead. He was the grandfather of the late Thomas H. Simpson of Lynn. Mr. Simpson was the brother of the late Lillian Julian and Thomas Simpson of Lynn. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
