Jean M. Bertrand

LYNN -- Jean Marie (Harrold) Bertrand, 89 years old of Lynn, died on Sept. 14, 2017 after a short episode with cancer. She was the daughter of Willard Harrold of Marblehead and Anna Bitter of Lynn. She leaves behind her children, Linda Lea Bertrand of Marblehead, Robert Bertrand and wife Gayle of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Stephen Bertrand and wife Susan of Saugus. She was the cherished grandmother of Katie Buckley, Nicholas Bertrand of Saugus, Jason Bertrand of Seattle, Wash., and adopted grandmother of Margaret Somerset of Salem. Her life was focused on loving and raising children. After raising her three children, she worked in a kindergarten and then provided childcare for a private family with four children. When her grandchildren began arriving she became the devoted grandmother, taking them every weekend for what they considered great adventures in crafts, food, and play. She was the creative drive behind all her grandchildren's school projects. She gave candy and advice to the neighborhood children who all called her "Nanny."? She was kind to everyone and always saw the good side in the people around her. She loved the outdoors for boating, skiing, gardening and swimming. One of her favorite places was Misery Island off the Manchester coast. She swam almost daily at the YMCA until July. She was an accomplished artist who displayed work in the Marblehead Arts Festival, North Shore Arts Association and other venues. Service inforamtion: The family is honoring her passing in private.
