John Barry Obituary
1946 - 2022
Nahant, MA - Mr. John F. "Jack" Barry, Jr., age 75, of Nahant, beloved husband of Sheila (Scully) Barry and father of Timothy Patrick and John Brendan, passed away on Friday July 22, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John F. and Ellen (McGovern) Barry. Jack graduated from St. Mary's High School, Boston College and studied law at Suffolk University. He was a member of the Army National Guard and worked at the Massachusetts State House with House Speaker, Thomas McGee, Sr. for many years. He also had part ownership of the Barry and O'Connor Insurance Agency in Lynn. When North Shore Community College opened in 1985, Jack became the Vice President of Government and Community Relations. He was an avid golfer at Tedesco Country Club for many years and received many awards for community service. In 1969, he won the Army Cup at Drumquill in Nahant; from 1986-1993, he was an elected member and Chairman of Nahant Housing Authority; in 1998, he was inducted into the Boy's and Girl's Club Hall of Fame; in 1999, he was named Irish Needle Night Irishman of the Year and was awarded a "Key to the City" from Mayor Edward "Chip" Clancy, Jr., in appreciation for Roast Master skills for the Lynn Lions Club.
Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sheila; his sons, Tim and Jack; his sister Attorney Sheila M. Barry of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his sisters-in-law and brothers-law, Madelyn Barry of Lynn, Patricia and Kerry Malloy of Stamford, CT and Maureen and Trevor Murphy of Ventura, CA and his many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late City of Lynn Solicitor, Attorney Michael J. Barry.
