Charlestown, RI - John Anthony Mogielnicki (known as Jack, BJ or Big Jack to most), 75, of Charlestown, RI, passed away on February 9th, 2026, in the presence of family and friends with fond memories of him and his beach house "Afterthought". A faint whisper of "one more for the boys" was heard. He was born on November 6th, 1950 in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Amelia Balcezak and Robert Mogielnicki.

Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Barry, with whom he shared many happy years of marriage. He worked for decades at an anti-poverty agency known as Lynn Economic Opportunity, Inc, starting as a volunteer and ultimately overseeing the organization as CEO. Jack spent the majority of his life performing challenging but important work supporting low-income families in Lynn and the greater Boston area. Jack was not all that impressed by the typical trappings of success. He relished speaking broken Spanish with one of his favorite gas station attendants and handing out mittens to impoverished children in his school programs during the winter.

After retiring in southern Rhode Island, Jack enjoyed birding, fishing, driving his red MGB around Quonochontaug, and playing cribbage with his best friend Chip Phelan. He is survived by his sons, David, Robert, and Daniel, their wives and partners, and grandchildren Lev, Noura, Henry, and Willa. Honoring Jack's lifelong compassion, donations in his memory may be made to organizations that support those most in need.
