Joseph D. DePrizito

SALEM ? Mr. Joseph D. DePrizito , age 85, of Salem, died Wednesday, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marie R. (Capone) DePrizito, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Lynn , he was the son of the late Emilio and Gerarda ?Geraldine? (Colella) DePrizito. He had lived in Lynn for the greater part of his life, and was a graduate of Lynn Vocational High School , Class of 1948. He had resided in Salem since 2001. Joseph was the proud owner of Marie?s Sub Shop & Joe D?s Italian kitchen near Classical High School in Lynn. He had worked as a store manager for Elm Farm Food Markets for 26 years. He also worked at A&P Markets, General Electric and Liberty Markets. Proud of his Italian heritage, he was a member of the Sons of Italy, the Italian-American Citizen Club, the Odd Fellows Club, the UCT Club and the Italian Community Center . He was the founder of the AA Bowling League and a talented bowler for 35 years. He was a member of the St. Francis and Holy Family churches . Joseph also helped establish Project Cope and was its longtime treasurer and volunteer. He had a passion for both Italian cooking and cultivating his vegetable garden as well as a love for international travel. He loved his family and was happiest when he was spending time with his granddaughters and beloved dog, Nikki. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Richard J. DePrizito of Palm Bay, Fla.; his daughter, Linda J. Anderson of Saugus, twin granddaughters, Cassandra M. and Kelsey C. Anderson of Saugus; three brothers, John A. DePrizito and his wife Sandra of Somersworth, N.H., James A. DePrizito and his wife Ruthann of Palm Bay, Fla., and Frank E. DePrizito and his wife Veronica of Murphy, N.C.; sister-in-law Margaret Ciota and her husband Joseph of Lynn as well as several nieces, nephews and special friends. He was the brother of the late Anthony J. DePrizito. During his recent illness Joe grew very fond of the caring staff on Fairfield 3 at Aviv. Service information: His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home , 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church , Lynn. Burial will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery , Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
