Lawrence Gannon Obituary

Lawrence William Gannon, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, on May 31, 2019. Born in Lynn, Mass., he was the eldest of three children of his late parents, Laurence "Silver"? Gannon and Elizabeth "Betty"? Gannon. After graduating from Boston University in 1960, Larry went on to a career in sales beginning with the Wall Street Journal for 12 years. In 1974, he moved his family to Charlottesville and began a long and successful career with the A.T. Cross Company. After more than twenty years, Larry retired; however, his retirement did not last long as he soon joined Washtech, a local company, to help with their business development in Virginia and surrounding states. And, while doing this he, his wife and two partners operated Gardenmarkers.com, an online retail business focused on custom engraved garden markers. A member of Farmington Country Club since 1974, Larry was an avid sportsman enjoying golf and tennis at the club. Throughout his years he was active on golf committees and with the annual Kenridge Invitational. Later in life, he took an interest in fly fishing, which led to him fully immersing himself in the sport. He enjoyed the art of it as well as the peace and quiet it offered. He also followed all UVA sports with passion. Larry was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He was predeceased by his sister, Janice Vance. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judith McGinn Gannon; his son, Justin and daughter-in-law, Amanda Latimer Gannon, of Manassas, Va.; daughter, Jennifer of Quincy, Mass.; four grandchildren, Colin, Quinn, Tarran, and Liam Gannon; his sister, Elaine Jacques of Middleton, Mass., and 13 nieces and nephews. Service information: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Charlottesvillle, Va., at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Blvd, Norton, MA 02766, tel. 774-430-9090; or to Hospice of Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Ste. 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. www.teaguefuneralhome.com .
