Mark Tranfaglia Obituary

Mark A. Tranfaglia, 60
1962 - 2023
Lynn, MA - Mr. Mark A. Tranfaglia, 60 years old of Lynn, died Saturday, September 30, 2023 in the ICU at Salem Hospital from COVID-19 complications after a valiant battle. Though he has left this Earth far too soon, Mark beat the odds in his lifetime, having lived with Type 1 Juvenile diabetes for over 50 years (a Joslyn Diabetes Survivor Medalist) and was blessed to survive with a transplanted donor kidney (thanks to his brother James) for over 21 years (which is far beyond the 10 year expectancy).
He is the beloved husband of Mrs. Maryellen (Mahoney) Tranfaglia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 daughter, Megan Tranfaglia and her husband Antonio ("Tony") Jimenez Garcia-Paz of Lynn. He is also the father of the late Nicole E. Tranfaglia, whose passing in 2012 left a hole in his heart.
Mark was born in Saugus, the son of the late Charles and Florence (Giorato) Tranfaglia. He was raised in Lynn, attended Lynn Public schools, and continued to live in Lynn all his life. For the past 30 years, he has worked for the City of Lynn (Parking Department & the former Lynn Convalescent Home).
He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his wife and two daughters, participating in both of his daughters' sports, including coaching and as a Board of Directors' member of West Lynn National Little League. Alongside his family, he enjoyed traveling to different states (especially for amusement parks and road trips) and countries (his last international trip to Mexico was notable as he got to walk his daughter down the aisle), and cruising around the Caribbean (where he almost had to move to when he lost his ID in the Atlantis Resort). He enjoyed classic rock and classic cars, collecting Harley Davidson shirts from around the world and practicing his aim at the Eastern Rifle and Revolver Club in Lynn.
He leaves behind 8 siblings; 5 brothers: Joseph C. Tranfaglia of CA, Charles J. Tranfaglia, Jr. and his wife Shirley of FL, Dennis J. Tranfaglia of AZ, James M. Tranfaglia and his wife Patricia of East Wareham, and Michael S. Tranfaglia of NH; and 3 sisters: Deborah Tranfaglia of Eastham, Candis Gillette of Winthrop and Catherine F. Giorato of Lynn. In addition, he is survived by his father-in- law, James P. Mahoney of Melrose, brothers-in-law Matthew Mahoney and his wife Melissa of Lynn, and James P. Mahoney Jr. of Newton; sister-in-law Shannon Mahoney Fuller and her husband Matthew of Reading. Mark loved his many nieces and nephews. Although he didn't have "favorites", his nieces Candace Anezis of Peabody and Bryanna Mahoney of Lynn held a special place in his heart. He was pre-deceased by his mother-in-law Ellen (Coughlin) Mahoney of Lynn.
