Middletown, CT - Maureen E. Walsh, (Turchi, Cooksley) 82, of Luther Manor, in Middletown CT, passed from this life on February 6, 2024. She was born May 19, 1941, daughter of Thomas J. and Eileen K. (O'Connor) Walsh of Nahant MA.
Born in Cambridge, MA, she grew up in Lexington, MA, summering in Nahant. She attended Lexington schools, and graduated from Rose Hawthorne Catholic High School in Concord, MA in 1959. She received a B.A. in Elementary Education and Music at Emmanuel College, Boston and an M.S. in Early Childhood Education from Central Connecticut State University.
During her childhood and later life, Maureen loved joining her extended family at the beach in Nahant, singing and playing the piano, and raising her family. She displayed a strong sense of humor, and was a loyal friend, never missing sending a birthday present or card.
During her long teaching career, Maureen taught in public and parochial schools in Haddam, CT, and Nahant MA. She also held a Real Estate license, and was a hospital volunteer. After retiring from full time teaching, she moved to Merritt Island, FL, where she joined the Cocoa Beach Community Church (UCC), where she enjoyed singing in the choir, volunteering in the church Thrift Shop, and serving on the Welcoming Committee. She also on occasion served as a substitute teacher in Merritt Island public and Parochial schools.
Maureen leaves two children, a daughter Erin (Turchi) Dobek of Allentown, PA, and a son Brent Turchi of Shelton, CT, and five grandchildren: Brynne, Julian, and Ania Dobek and Jonathan and Parker Turchi. She leaves a sister, Karen (Walsh) Cease of Camden ME and a brother, Thomas J. Walsh of Nahant, MA.

She was my 1st Grade Teacher as "Mrs. Turchi" at Anna Reynolds Elementary School (formerly "Northwest School") in Newington, CT in the Autumn of 1971. From her, I learned the fundamentals of "Reading-Writing-Arithmetic" under her tutelage, and I'd like to add that she had the greatest impact on my early cognitive abilities, and for this I am forever grateful. I have thought of her over the years, and had I known that she was so close-by to me, I would have paid her a visit and thanked her myself. I'm saddened at news of her passing.

Maureen was a good kind person who enjoyed family gatherings. I was lucky to have her join us for our traditional Christmas Eve supper. She will be missed, especially by her grandchildren. Rest in peace, Maureen.
