Maxine Teck Obituary

Teacher, loved to travelMalibu, CA - Maxine Teck of Malibu, California and Swampscott, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at her Malibu home on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the age of 85 years.Maxine was born June 23rd, 1925 at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Harry and Shirley (Goldring) Rapp. She grew up in the larger than life atmosphere of Coney Island where her parents operated a carnival booth. She had many colorful friends from her childhood years who remained friends throughout her entire life.In 1944 she married prize fighter Artie Tedesco. Their marriage was a stormy and short couple of years that produced a beloved son Steven. Maxine and Artie remained friends all their lives. In 1948 she met the love of her life! Stanley Teck was a soda jerk and WWII combat veteran working in his father's deli in the Bronx. He swept her off her feet and took Maxine and her son Steven to beautiful sunny California. It was here that three more children joined their family, David, Sarah and Susan. The Teck family lived in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles where many friends from New York came to visit and stay. Maxine's home was always where the action was. Food, family and friends were all welcome at their table. The door was always open.As the children grew older and began families of their own, Maxine returned to school as an adult and graduated from the California State University at Northridge with a BA and a teaching credential. It took many years, but eventually she began teaching high school history for the Los Angeles Unified School District from which she eventually retired.Maxine's thirst for knowledge never ceased. She always read anything she could get her hands on. She was intelligent and informed. She enjoyed conversations on most any topic from music, art, business, or politics. Her views were slightly to the left of Ted Kennedy's and she was always a champion of the underdog. There was no topic she would avoid. She was gifted when it came to making acquaintances. She did plenty of traveling with her dear Stanley until his early departure in 1985 after 36 years of marriage. That was a tough loss for the whole family. Her children would tell her she had "ants in her pants!" She never wanted to sit around. Let's go here, let's go there… anywhere new and exciting. Even in her later years, she strapped her scooter on the back of her car and off to the mall she went.Maxine Teck will be missed by many, many friends and family. She was predeceased by her dear husband Stanley, her loving son David, and her beautiful granddaughter Sabrina. She is survived by her son Steven (Donna) Teck of Granada Hills, California, Sarah Teck and her husband Robert "Mac" Wishon of Swampscott, Massachusetts and Susan and her husband Richard Nuttall of Malibu, California. She leaves her grandchildren Jeffrey (Galit) Teck and Michael (Meredith) Teck and Derek Koda all of California and Cameron (Vera) Everson of Salem and David (Tracy) Wishon of Somerville and Shannon Wishon and Rich Morley of Wakefield, England. She leaves 5 great grandchildren Ryan, Braden, Kelly, Carson and Mr Gabe. She also leaves a devoted sister June Rosoff of Burbank, California and many nieces and nephews. Her dear companion "Radar" misses her as well.Service Information: Maxine had a memorial service and burial near her husband and son in California. Sarah and her family will accept condolences at her home, 16 Preston Ct., Swampscott on Sunday, March 20th from 1-7 p.m.
