North Ft. Myers, FL - Michael H. McCarthy passed away on January 29, 2025, in North Fort Myers, Florida, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna (Leblanc) McCarthy; his daughters, Erin McCarthy and Riane McCarthy; and his son, Sam Descoteaux. Michael was the proud son of Daniel J. McCarthy and Barbara A. (Quill) McCarthy, who both predeceased him last year.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Michael spent much of his life there before retiring from Salem State University after 22 years in the trades department. Retirement marked the start of his snowbird era, splitting his time between winters in North Fort Myers, Florida, and summers on Little Ossipee Lake in Maine. In each place he called home-Massachusetts, Maine, and Florida-he was surrounded by wonderful friends who became family.
Mike's love of life was evident in his appreciation for a good book, his passion for history and sports, long walks, and classic rock. But what truly set him apart, and what his family will miss most, was his razor-sharp, playful sense of humor. Whether it was a perfectly timed one-liner or a decades-long running family joke, Mike had a gift for bringing laughter to those around him.
Burial will be private; however, a celebration of life will be held this summer to honor Mike's memory with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa's Helping Hands (P.O. Box 821, Lynn, MA 01904), where Mike volunteered for many years, or to Hope Hospice (9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908), whose care brought him comfort in his final days.
