Barbara Jean Ashmore McCarthy
Barbara Jean Ashmore McCarthy, born Saturday, November 20, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was the beloved daughter of Harry Ashmore and Eleanora Ashmore. She was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by her brother Howard Ashmore and Dottie and is survived by her brother Robert Ashmore and wife Patricia Ashmore.
Barbara was raised in a devout Catholic family, where her faith became the foundation for her life. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Sacred Heart High School in Indianapolis. She married the love of her life, Francis A. McCarthy of Sharon, Pennsylvania, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Indianapolis. They were married for 44 years, until Frank’s passing in March 2005. Barbara worked as a secretary for many years prior to staying home and lovingly raising her two children. She lived life by her favorite motto: One Day at a Time, Faith and a Sense of Humor.
Barbara is survived by her two children, Michael Andrew Francis McCarthy of San Antonio, TX married to Dr. Scheherezada Urban McCarthy and Kathleen Anne McCarthy Dilts married to Troy Dilts of Anderson, IN.
She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Conor Dilts, Madalyn Dilts, Michael Giovanni McCarthy Urban, Arya Giselle McCarthy Urban, William Gabriel McCarthy Urban, Ryan Asher McCarthy Urban, great granddaughter Willow Dilts and her many nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be remembered for her deep faith, devotion to family, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
Visitation will be Thursday March 5th at Flanner Buchanan Geist from 5-8pm. Her Mass will be Friday March 6th, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church- Geist, at 11am. She will be laid to rest following her mass at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
