Doris Crawmer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by MJS Mortuaries - Redkey Chapel on Feb. 27, 2026.
Doris Caroline Crawmer, 94, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Monday, February 16, 2026, at IU Health Methodist Hospital. She was born September 9, 1931, in Redkey, IN, and was the daughter of the late David and Gladys (Grunden) Crawmer. Doris was raised in Redkey, where she attended and graduated from Redkey High School, class of 1949. Doris grew up in the Main Street United Methodist Church in Redkey, IN, where her mother was an active member all her life, which sparked Doris's interest and dedication to help others. At a young age, Doris was fascinated by the medical environment during her parents' hospitalizations. Later, she felt God was leading her to a medical career. Wanting a Christian education, she was accepted into the nursing program at Taylor University, which was then affiliated with Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Among the many things acquired while at Taylor were a firmer Christian foundation and a better understanding of various cultures. Several professors and their teaching were a tremendous help in understanding and dealing with various personalities during her future career. She continued her education journey at Taylor University and graduated with a bachelor's degree. She remained and continued to serve and advance in her medical profession for 40 years at Methodist Hospital. Doris was a kind and compassionate woman who will be dearly missed. She is survived by several cousins, extended family members, friends, and former co-workers. She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside services are private at the convenience of the family in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, in Muncie, IN. Doris wished to encourage young people to prepare for a medical profession and be a Christian influence to others. She felt Taylor University continues to offer this kind of environment and therefore established a scholarship with Taylor University, given in memory of her parents, D. Wilbur and Gladys G. Crawmer, for their faithful support during both her good and difficult times. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to that scholarship. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries.
