Marjorie Eilene Johnson

Marjorie Eilene Johnson, 85, of Portland, IN, passed away Thursday, November 27th, 2025, peacefully surrounded by love and in the comforts of home. Marjorie was born in Union City, OH, on September 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Gladys (Cox) and Robert Henry. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a kind, loving and understanding woman who in the words of her children, was "the best mother anyone could have". Her grandchildren added "she would take down anyone over her grandchildren. Marjorie enjoyed watching Western's, especially Gun Smoke, the Price is Right, and Let's Make a Deal. She also loved embroidery, crossword puzzles and coloring. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sondra Kay Nearon (Larry), Teresa Ann Storie (Tracey), Gary Lee Johnson (Carolena), Jacob Edward Johnson, Jr. (Sandy), 1 sister: Pamela Shylene Ballard, 1 brother: Kevin Lee Henry, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband Jacob Edward Johnson, Sr. who she happily married on July 3, 1957 and sadly lost in August of 1979, her parents: Robert and Gladys Henry, 1 daughter: Belinda Sue Bowdell, 4 sisters: Marcella Maxine Nester, Sarah Johnson, Lois Bragg, Virginia Johnson, 3 brothers: Jimmy Leon Henry, Bobby Henry, and Steve Henry. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held in Elizabeth Cemetery in Union City, IN. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Jay County Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries - Redkey Chapel.
