Michael Orgettas Obituary

Co-founder of Travel Leather CompanyPEABODY - Michael Orgettas, 87, of Peabody, MA a co-founder of Travel Leather Company , Peabody, died Thursday at the Salem Hospital surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Rena I. (Vounessea) Orgettas with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. He was born in Peabody on February 10,1920, the son of the late Nicholas and Despina (Xindaris) Orgettas and had resided here all his life. He had been in the Leather Industry for over70 years and co-founded with his late wife Rena, the Cut-Rite Splitting Company. Later they founded Tan-Rite Leather Company that is now operated as Travel Leather Company and one of the last existing leather companies in Peabody. He worked at the company for 51 years . He had been a member of the Amity Lodge A.F.& A.M. in Danvers for 50 years and he was very generous and philanthropic in helping others on the Northshore. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Ann Marie Orgettas of Swampscott, 4 daughters, Tessie and her husband Peter Geomelos, Loretta Orgettas and Effie Orgettas all of Peabody and Ruth and her husband Matthew Ambeliotis of Middleton, 12 grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, a companion, Dorothea Pechiles of Lynn and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James and Paul Orgettas, Kiki Kostopoulos and Anna Panopoulos.SERVICE INFORMATION -A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Vasilios Scholarship Fund of Michael Orgettas, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
