Norman Douglass Hammer, 95
1930 - 2025
Stuart, Florida - Norman Douglass Hammer, 95, of Marblehead, MA, and later Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 1, 1930 in Lynn, MA, Norman lived a full life defined by kindness, integrity, and devotion.
Norman attended Bates College, where he excelled in baseball, graduating in 1952. Later that year, he married his first wife, Elaine. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Miller in the aftermath of the Korean War.
Returning to civilian life, Norman joined the family business, Bourneuf Corporation, in Lynn, MA, where he built a successful career. He and Elaine raised four children in Marblehead, creating a home filled with love and activity.
An avid sportsman, Norman was passionate about golf, tennis, badminton, and skiing. He remained active throughout his life. At both Tedesco Country Club and Mariner Sands, he was a low handicapper, winning multiple tournaments and achieving at least 6 holes-in-one, the last just 2 months before his 90th birthday!
After retiring, Norman and his second wife, Ruth, settled in Mariner Sands, Stuart, Florida, where he continued to pursue his passion for golf and enjoyed an active social life. He was a skilled bridge player and loved playing card games with his children and grandchildren. His competitive spirit and warm presence made him a cherished member of every community he joined.
He was predeceased by his wives, Elaine (Hammer) Bohner and Ruth (Curtis) Hammer. He is survived by his loving children: Dianne E. McCarthy and her husband, Michael; Susan E. Kushmerek and her husband, Stanley; Russell N. Hammer and his wife, Kelly; and Douglass A. Hammer and his wife, Jodi and two stepchildren, Cindy Curtis and Gordy Curtis; eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Norman's legacy of integrity and devotion will live on in their hearts.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Marblehead, MA. The family will be present to welcome attendees beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Waterside Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

Norman's life was a testament to living fully, loving deeply, and standing firm in what is right. He will be dearly missed.
