Robert Braid Obituary

SAUGUS - Robert M. Braid, of Saugus, died in Wilmington on March 28, 2014 at the age of 88. Bob was born and raised in Saugus and a graduate of Saugus High School, class of 1943, and went to attend Burdett Business School in Boston.Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in London and France as a combat medic. After WWII, Bob was the owner of Braid's IGA in Saugus for many years and also worked as a field representative for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Employment Security for over 20 years.After retiring, Bob worked at the Gately Funeral Home in Melrose for many years. He was a lifelong Saugus resident and a former member of the Saugus School Committee.Bob enjoyed traveling to London, Scotland, Denmark and Norway. He loved to spend his time with his family, as they were the most important part of his life and he was so proud of his two granddaughters.Bob was the beloved husband of Helen A. (Schiorring) Braid for 60 years. Loving father of Robert S. Braid and his wife Anne Marie of Wilmington. Cherished grandfather of Alicia M. Tonione and her husband Kyle of North Carolina and Julie Braid of Wilmington. WWII Army veteran.Service information: At Bob's request, funeral services were private.Contributions may be made in Bob's memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements by the GATELY Funeral Home, Melrose.
