FRANCIS L. "BUD" PERRIN

Francis L. "Bud" Perrin passed away on June 28th at the age of 96 following a short illness. Bud was a member of a pioneer Pomona family. His paternal grandfather settled in Pomona Valley in the 1880's and established an orange grove on land that is now occupied by the Montclair Plaza. He was born on January 28, 1914 to Chauncey C. Perrin and Hallie (Owen) Perrin and was one of the first children born in the newly rebuilt Pomona Valley Hospital after the original hospital was destroyed by a fire. Bud attended Pomona schools and graduated from Pomona High School in 1932. He went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from USC in 1937. Upon graduation, he partnered with his father and his brother Clarence Perrin and formed Perrin & Sons, an oil and gasoline distribution company which operated over 40 gasoline service stations throughout Southern California. The company was an originator of the "self service" gasoline station. The company was sold to Gulf Oil in 1955. Bud devoted much of his remaining years to the operation of a Nevada cattle ranch which he jointly owned with his brother. In October, 1940, Bud married Mary Keckley. They had two sons David L. and Ronald D. Perrin. Bud and Mary enjoyed travel and together they visited much of the world. Their marriage endured for 69 years until Mary passed away in January of this year. Bud is survived by his sons both of Huntington Beach, California. He was predeceased by his mother and father and by two brothers, Clarence H. and Floyd M. Perrin and by his sister Mildred I. Keister. Services will be conducted at Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona on Tuesday, July 6th at 1:30PM.
