Paul Blakeslee Obituary

BLAKESLEE Paul Beecher Blakeslee Jr., 86, a proud World War II veteran, died May 14, 2009 from complications following a recent hospitalization. Mr. Blakeslee was born on November 23, 1922 in Norwich, Conn., the son of the late Dr. Paul and Elizabeth Blakeslee. He attended Butler University and Jordan Conservatory of Music, where he was a member of Sigma Chi. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1944 and served as a Combat Rifleman during the invasion at Normandy, France. Following the war, Mr. Blakeslee returned to complete his education with a Bachelor of Science in Radio. After college, he became an established salesman and long standing member of the Scottish Rite in Indiana. After moving to Florida, he met and married Donna Berrigan of Jacksonville and her three children. He believed in God, Country and Family. He loved the 4th of July, football, golf and fishing. His tender care for his bonsai plants were a testament to his joy of gardening. He had a life long love and respect for nature and animals. He leaves behind his dear companion Fluff, one of the many feral animals he helped along the way. He is preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Donna Blakeslee, their daughter Cathy and brother Bill. Mr. Blakeslee is survived by two daughters, Cindi and Joe McClure, Patti and Eddie Pitts, four grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Lance and Tiffany, five great grandchildren, Taylor, Ella, Payton, Emerson and Jake. Patti

Over the years, Peggy has told me about what a close and loving relationship you shared with your father. You can take comfort in the fact that you took wonderful care of your father when he needed you. There are no words that will ease your pain, so I won't even try. I just wanted you to know that I am extrememly sorry for the loss of your father. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Paul was the grandfather I never had. He was kind and wise. I lived next to him for years and even though he moved he was never forgotten. No one could throw a party like Mr. Paul and Mrs. Donna. I am sure they are having a hodown in Haven.

Paul was a dear friend of mine. He taught me the game of golf and we played many rounds, eventually we made a pilgrimage to The Masters in Augusta. As my father in law he made family gatherings a fun event! I'll always remember the good times we had...
