John J. Finneran Jr.

1932 - 2015

John Joseph Finneran Jr. died peacefully at his home in Rialto, CA on March 2, 2015 at the age of 82 following a brief illness. He was a resident of Rialto for 50 years. He was born on November 12, 1932 in Westchester, NY to John and Juanita Finneran. John grew up in New York City in the Bronx borough. Growing up, John loved to play baseball and football and was a fan of the NY Giants baseball team. John was one of nine children. Siblings who predecease him are Larry Walton, Timothy Finneran, Theresa Noto, and Robert Finneran. Siblings who survive him are Ann Madonia, Thomas Finneran, Mary Dallas and Pat Ross.

At the age of 19, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and served as a Military Air Policeman. John was in the Air Force for 5 years and his tours of duty included Clark Air Force Base, Philippines and Suffolk County Air Force Base NY.

In 1955 he married Kathleen Forman and they settled in Riverhead, Long Island, NY. In 1957 John left the Air Force and opened his first full service gas station. John continued his love of sports by playing in numerous men's fast pitch softball leagues. In 1962 John moved his family to San Bernardino, CA and eventually settled in Rialto, where he continued his entrepreneurial pursuits and love of cars, owning and operating numerous service stations and Finneran's Auto Sales.

John enjoyed coaching youth sports, taking his family on vacations to Pismo Beach and Desert Hot Springs and going to Angels baseball games. He was an avid bowler and handball player. John was very active at St. Catherine's Catholic Church community in Rialto for many years.

John is survived by his wife Eleanor Finneran, and his 7 children: John Finneran III (Helen), Karen Cates (Bill), Daniel Finneran (Sheri), Edward Finneran (Maggie), Kim Lloyd (John), Kathleen Lanteigne (Mark), and Nancy Finneran (Eric). In addition, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren survive John.
