Paul F. Weisend
1928-2012
Professor Emeritus LTC USAFR (ret)

Passed away on Friday, July 27 at Arbor Glen Care Center, Glendora, CA following a long illness. His wife Fern was with him. He was born in McKees Rocks, PA on March 31, 1928, the only child of Clarence and Helen Walker Weisend. Paul received his BA in Economics from Duquesne University Pittsburgh, PA in 1949. From December 30, 1950 to January 22, 1954 he was on active duty with the USAF. (He continued in the USAF Reserve until Dec 1975, retiring in 1988 with the rank of Lt. Col). He received his JD from St. Mary's University Law School San Antonio Texas in 1955. From 1958 to 1968, he was Associate Professor of Business at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS. In 1966-67, he took sabbatical leave and attended Cornell University School of Law, Ithaca, NY, and received his LLM (Emphasis Government Contracts Law). Moving to California in 1968, he joined California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as professor of Finance, Real Estate and Law. He founded and taught the Government Contracts Management Program. During his tenure he brought two National Honor fraternities to CAL Poly, PHI KAPPA PHI and DELTA MU DELTA, in addition to four other fraternities. He was active in fund raising and worked closely with the defense industry. In 1988, he was named National Teacher of the Year CONTRACTS. He was a consultant to Cong. John H. Rousselot, 26th Dist., CA from 1970-78. Paul was a member of the American Legion, Pomona, CA, Pomona Valley YMCA, Ganesha Hills Homeowners Assn (resident 43 years), Los Angeles Chapter Lambda Alpha, National Contracts Managements Assn, Strategic Industries Assn, Military Officers Assn of America. Paul is survived by Fern, his wife of 47 years, brother-in-law Bob Shore, Los Angeles, cousins, Father Robert Nogosek, Notre Dame, IN, Margaret Walsh, Chicago, IL, Barbara White, Auburn, AL, Catherine Healey, Metairie, LA, Ann Burkhart, Atlanta, GA, Eileen Aiken English, Eighty Four, PA, and numerous former students who benefited from his guidance and leadership. His main goal in life was helping TOP/GOOD/HONEST students obtain positions with a future. Interment in the Weisend family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery in McKees Rocks, PA on Saturday, Aug 4th. Father Bob Nogosek traveled from Notre Dame to Pittsburgh to conduct the graveside service. Arrangements by Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona, CA and McDermott Funeral Home, Inc, McKees Rocks, PA.

Paul, (a devout Catholic and staunch conservative), and I, (an Agnostic liberal) were office mates at Cal Poly. We became good friends. May he rest in peace.
