Hi Griffiths family!--I am a retired teacher who graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 1977 and 1981. I received my teaching credentials in 1983 and Dr. Griffiths was my Science and Social Studies methodology teacher. When I took the CBEST in 1983 we had to write a comparison/contrasting essay about our most effective/least effective professor in college. I wrote about Dr. Griffiths as my most effective professor. I ended up teaching in a bilingual program since I took 4 years of Spanish in college as it was required at the time for English majors. One of my students is now a pharmacist certified in both Texas and California, 3 are teachers in the same district in which I taught (OMSD) and several are officers in the military. I thoroughly appreciate what Dr. Griffiths did to help me prepare for a fulfilling career as a teacher.
I am the only one in our family who followed my dad, who was a U.S. History teacher at Montclair High School, into the teaching field. Society expects very much from teachers now and those of us who have taken up that challenge really appreciate the guidance of people like Dr. Griffiths. I want his family to know how much their collective sacrifices have meant to us.
A fellow student who was my dear friend, Joanne Edwards, died shortly after we completed the program. She was also a BIG FAN of Dr. Griffiths. I saluted her contributions to teaching by using all her lovingly prepared materials that her brother entrusted in me, as part of my daily teaching program. Please know that there are still students out there who not only remember Dr. Griffiths, but also recognize the value of what he taught us in pursuit of being effective educators. Thank you so much!
