I worked with Steve as a Probation Officer in the early 90s. As I did my morning trek through Upland and was walking on 20th Street when I made the left turn on O'Malley and saw the home I remember in building with an old vintage car displayed on the side of it.
Though Steve and I never saw each other outside of work, he did come and install my refrigerator in March 1993 when I bought my home in Upland. My husband is not handy and I was telling Steve that it was leaking. Without a thought he said, "I'll come over and see what I can do." And fix it he did. It touched my heart so I thought of him as a friend. So while walking last week I wanted to see the house he built. It's painted pink now, but knew it was the house I'd seen as being built.
It's been 4 years tomorrow since his death, but I was deeply saddened to find out he had died. I'm sorry for your loss Susan. He spoke of you and Sara often, even showed me pictures way back then when of Susan was about 4 or 5 years old. I was so moved by the news I called another Probation Officer co-worker to share the news with her.
His passing is still being felt Susan. He was kind, gentle and loving. God Bless.

It has been almost a year since we lost my brother Steve. He did so much for others while he was alive and is missed every day. Each Wednesday I hope he will drop by as he used to do. It is a comfort that he is with his Lord. He lives in our hearts.

Steve was a wonderful man and we all loved him dearly! He was always there ready end eager to help! We joined the church on Palm Sunday back in 1989. He will be missed by all who knew this caring Christian man.

Steve and I grew up in Escondido, CA and attended 4H meetings to share our love of animals and agriculture. I met his sister Kathy there and Steve always had my best interests in our relationship. Steve and I worked many hours in his fathers landscape business planting plants and lawns and spreading tons and tons of gravel. We spent many happy hours working on his Ford Model A cars and my Nash. I regret that we were not able to complete his most recent project, a 1969 Mustang. Steve was so proud of the Victorian home he built for his family in Upland. There is no way to fill the void he leaves in my life.

Truly the world spins a little more lopsided now. Steve was a hero. He was my husband's best friend and always opened his heart, his home, and his cooking skills to the Dave Peters family. When our busy calendars were too overcrowded, Steve and Sue stepped in as Aunt and Uncle and picked up and babysat our grands. Every holiday we were found laughing together. Our friends and family were as welcome as we were. We call Sara Princess Sara. There is no one in the world to compare him to. A giant among men. i love you and know you will meet me on the other side, split pea soup in hand! Coool.

Neighbor,
We are so sad to hear of Steve's passing. We'll always remember Steve's smiling face and kindnesses. He shook each of our children's hands and congratulated them as they received their Upland High diploma. I fondly remember many years ago when my husband was struggling with a heavy yard task, Steve walked right over and helped. We'll miss seeing him around the neighborhood.
