Susan Bloom Obituary

May 1, 1952 - December 19, 2020 After a courageous fight with cancer, Susan Bloom went to be with her Savior on December 19, 2020. She was born on May 1, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio to Harry and Ethel Richey. She graduated from Hillard (Ohio) High School in 1970 and attended The Ohio State University where she graduated in 1975 with a degree in Health Sciences. She worked for 10 years in the Microbiology Department of Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. A coworker arranged an introduction to John Bloom, and she married him in 1985. They recently celebrated 35 wonderful years of marriage. After getting married and moving to California, Sue and John established their home in Upland. Despite being nationally licensed and having 10 years of Microbiology experience, she had to pass California's license test in order to do Microbiology work in California. While waiting to take the California test, she got a job with General Dynamics Data Systems Division in Pomona where she worked for 7 years. In 1991, she started as a Microbiologist for Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora. She was transferred to Inter Community Hospital in Covina, where she was the Microbiology Lab Supervisor until her death. She loved to shop and enjoyed looking for bargains year-round to give as gifts to family and friends. She enjoyed spending time in Sedona, Arizona, and loved shopping and relaxing there. She is survived by her husband, John Bloom of Upland, California, brother Bert Richey of Geneva, Ohio and sister Margaret Bell of Mt. Gilead, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11 from 4 to 8 pm at the Draper Mortuary Chapel, 811 N. Mountain Avenue in Ontario. Due to covid restrictions on attendance, the Memorial Service will be for family only. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed on Draper Mortuary's Facebook page at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 12. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Emanate Health Foundation ([email protected]) in Covina.

To My Dearest Sister Sue,
May 1st, 1952 –December 19th, 2020
I tried to play a song for you today but could only pray.
No song came to my heart however I tried, all I could do was sit, pray with flute in hand and cry.
This Christmas Eve my heart beat hollow in its daylight beams cast so sallow.
It will take time to heal for missing you, when you love your sister that’s what sisters do.
You fought proudly and bravely to the trails end, your long suffering I do not miss, but you my dear sister, my mentor and friend.
Plentiful memories join me as I make my way, one step at a time to a brighter day.
The song in my heart will return one day, to be played in honor of you sis is in part what I pray.
Now in heaven on this I can bet, you were the best sister ever, loved always with the deepest respect.
Your first Christmas in heaven and ours without you, expectedly never the same without my wonderful, kind and loving sister Sue.
Loving and missing you sis,
Peg
