Virginia Sullivan Obituary

Virginia Davis Sullivan, 78 of Mission Viejo, Calif. died March 5, 2002 following several months of declining health. She was born on May 10, 1923 in Casper, Wyoming. She came from pioneer stock, which had homesteaded in Wyoming decades before statehood. Virginia Sullivan lived in Claremont and then late r in LaVerne on property originally part of a family-owned orange grove on Baseline Road. She taught elementary grades in Pomona schools, primarily at Golden Springs School in Diamond Bar from 1963 to 1983. She retired to Laguna Niguel, Calif. in 1994. She was educated in Casper schools, in Westlake School in Los Angeles, Stanford University and The Claremont Graduate University. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Virginia will be remembered as an engaging reconteur and conversationalist. She wa s familiar with Wyoming history and lore and enjoyed western understatement and wit. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her optimistic and encouraging nature and for her remarkable sense of humor and generosity. She was an inspired teacher, recognizing the potential in everyone and a devoted mother and friend. She is survived by three children, Mark Sullivan and Maureen of Monarch Beach, Karen Sullivan of Claremont, Christopher Sullivan and Jill of Telluride, Colo.; as well as a niece De borah Davis Caughron of Claremont; and a nephew, Charles Bucknum Davis of Casper, Wyo. She also leaves five grandchildren, Treisa Sullivan Cassens of Costa Mesa, Maribeth Cooper of Aliso Viejo, Tyrone Tavasci of Laguna Niguel, Katie Sullivan and Bryan Sullivan of Telluride, Colo., and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at the Christ Church Parish, 1127 North San Antonio, Ontario, Calif. Family members suggest that instead of flowers, donations be made to Mission Hospital Foundation 27700 Medical Center Road, Mission Viejo, Calif. 92691. (949) 364-7783.
