Long time Imperial Valley resident, Alexa Westmoreland, 92, of Westmoreland Ranch, 3 1/2 miles northwest of Seeley, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by family and her caregiver, Alicia.
She was born Jean Alexa MacDonald on November 15, 1930, in Lennox, California, to John Angus MacDonald and Mildred Mae Black MacDonald. Alexa moved to the Imperial Valley in 1945, when her mother obtained a teaching job in Imperial. She graduated from Imperial Valley Union High School in 1948, Central Junior College in 1950, and from San Diego State with a Bachelors of Arts with Teaching Credential in 1952.
After her college graduation, she married Charles Westmoreland on June 22, 1952, and took on the role of a rancher's wife. They were married for 65 years until Charles passed away in 2017.
Alexa is survived by her children, Sally Westmoreland (Carlos) of Independence, CA; Mary (Dan) Manseau of Portland, OR; Vicki (David) Schille of Yuma, AZ; Douglas (Elena) Westmoreland of Westmoreland Ranch; 7 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The Westmoreland Family would like to give special thanks to Alicia and her family who adopted Alexa into their family, and provided care during Alexa's final years.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Cheval Farm, 346 Larsen Road, Imperial, CA 92251. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Imperial County Historical Society, 373 East Aten Road, Imperial, CA 92251.
