Betty Jane Hurst Conway Beynon, passed away on October 14th in Carlsbad, California, she was 75 years old. Betty was born on November 5th 1929 in El Centro. She was the daughter of early settlers of El Centro, Bryan and Lil Hurst. She graduated from Central Union High School in 1947.
Betty met her first husband, George W. "Bud" Conway while working for him as his secretary at one of Bud's businesses, Valley Transit Cement Company. They were married in 1951 and worked together running the family's business until Bud's untimely death in January of 1973. Bud's death was a tragic loss for Betty, but she continued on raising the family while performing bookkeeping functions for several Imperial Valley businesses.
Betty later married Tom E. Beynon. Tom and Betty had been friends at C.U.H.S., but they had never really recognized the depth of their friendship until later in their lives. Tom and Betty were married in 1976 until Tom's death in January of 1997. Betty was also preceded in death by her son, W. Mark "Buddy" Conway in January of 1998.
Memorial services will be Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 10:00am at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Betty is survived by sons and daughter in laws Michael and Jane Conway of Santa Rosa, CA, Bryan and Nanette Conway and Robert and Josephine Conway of El Centro, CA. Along with her sons Betty leaves behind her stepdaughter Maureen Conway of Cameron Park, CA. Betty is also survived by ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces including Sherry Einer Culver of Escondido, CA, who was a niece so close, Betty considered her a daughter.
Betty was the President and Charter member of the El Centro Venture Club. She was a Past Secretary of the Order of Eastern Star, and a Member of the Eagles Auxiliary of El Centro.
