CHARLES JONES Obituary

Charles Earl Jones was born on June 8, 1934 in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He passed away on December 1, 2021 at the age of 87.
Chuck joined the Air Forces at 17 years of age and served our country as a jet mechanic at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Business Administration degree & then earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego.
Chuck began his law career in the office of the San Diego County District Attorney, then was a successful criminal defense attorney. He switched to the prosecution side of law when he joined the Imperial County District Attorney office.
In 1981, Chuck was appointed to the Municipal Court in Imperial County, serving until 1997, choosing not to run for another term. He encouraged his wife Evangelina to accept a position at San Diego State Universitys main campus as a bilingual education professor, which meant a long daily commute. He accepted a position as an assigned judge, working in Southern California locations and was soon offered a permanent position as a Superior Court judge in San Diego County until his retirement in 2005.
Chuck was preceded in death by his sons, Kevin and Steven.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evangelina; stepson, Taheen Lopez; grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, and Jonathan; and great granddaughter Caliana Elizabeth.
A celebration of life will be held January 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Imperial Valley Food Bank in his memory.

I worked for Imperial County Probation from 1974 until 2009 retiring as Deputy Chief Probation Officer. I worked on cases with Charles when he first came down as a Deputy District Attorney and later as Municipal & then Superior Court Judge. He had a great sense of humor and a fair person. Since I was born in Hereford, Texas I appreciated he Texas common sense dealing with all matters as a Judge. Every Probation officer Respected him & Really LIKED going to his court to work. I know God will find things for him to help with in Heaven. God Bless & Sorry for your Loss.

I knew Chuck when he was a Judge in Imperial County and I was a Deputy Probation Officer. What a great guy and an awesome Judge. Condolences to friends and family. R.I.P. old friend.
