DAISY WRIGHT Obituary

DAISY WRIGHT

Dec. 15, 1929 - Feb. 18, 2015

Daisy Wright died February 18, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and its related diseases. She turned 85 on December 15, 2014. Daisy was the fifth of six children born to Julia and John Oliver Brown in Buffalo, Texas.
In August 1944, amidst dust, crickets and heat never before experienced, Daisy, with sister Pansy, brother Harley and mother disembarked from the soldier laden train in downtown Niland. Calipatria became home for them.
While attending Calipatria High School, Daisy excelled in team sports and loved competition. Daisy was the first women to be crowned homecoming queen at Calipatria High School. Daisy also was selected Beauty Queen at the second annual Tomato Festival held in Niland. She served as Miss Imperial Valley during 1947 and as such was the guest of Paramount Studios.
Daisy and Jack Wright celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on December 18, 2014. They were blest with four lovely children. Their eldest daughter, Carolyn Wright, died Dec. 29th, 2006. Surviving her are son Jack Wright Jr. of Rio Dell, CA, daughter Elizabeth Keener, Husband Jim of Glenhaven, CA and Wendell Wright of Brawley and significant other, Dana Malone of Imperial. She is survived by sister, Pansy Huffman, Husband Milton of Calipatria, granddaughter, Ericka (Keener) Beery, her husband Howard of Juneau, AK, granddaughter, Candice (Keener) Wozniak, her husband Thad of San Francisco, grandson Eric Wright of Brawley, great-grandson, Ryan and great-grand- daughter Kaikoura Beery also numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Siblings preceding her in death were Nathan, Lily, May, Garland and Harley.
In 1958 after moving to Porterville, where Wendell was born, they moved to Kingsburg where Daisy devoted her life to raising her children and serving her Lord while attending the Selma Church of Christ. She loved entertaining, camping, pot luck picnics, playing team sports. Daisy worked seasonally at the Del Monte canning factory.
Moving back to Imperial Valley in 1972 Daisy worked as weigh master for Producers Cotton Oil before retiring in 1988. She pitched for various women's softball teams, the last being D&H Body Shop. Women's volleyball kept her athletically engaged into her 60's. Her home, displays trophies which attest to her athleticism and competitiveness.
As a member of the Brawley Church of Christ, Daisy kept herself engaged in church work. She is well known for her hospitality and concern for folks in need. Her beautiful alto voice was an inspiration to all who sang with her. Amateur recordings of her singing, with friends and family, are evidence of her pleasure in singing Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
She had special ability with cooking skills. Her home was often the 'home away from home' for preachers who were in town for gospel meetings. In later years she regretted not having kept a register of her guests. The good news is that God has a book with Daisy Wright's name written therein. She is a good woman greatly missed but at home with the Lord.
Visitation for Daisy will take place Wednesday, February 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley.
Chapel Service will commence at 10 a.m. Thursday morning at Frye Chapel. Leon Goff of Mt. Pleasant, TX will preside over Daisy's service and Don Mullins of Tampa, FL will direct the singing. Daisy will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery after Service with a luncheon to follow at the Stockmen's Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daisy's name to your favorite charity.

Jack Wright & Family, Daisy will be missed. She was a great asset on the Softball Field, I had fun playing with her that one year in Brawley, after that it was against her, but we still had fun. I am very sorry for your loss. I will miss her. Betty Ann Jones
