EDDIE REED Obituary

EDDIE GLEN REED

Apr. 28, 1942 – Sept. 2, 2024

Eddie Glen Reed, 82, of Kannapolis, NC, formerly of Brawley, passed away September 2, 2024, in Kannapolis. Eddie Glen was born at home in Brawley on April 28, 1942, to his parents, Ed and Helen Reed. He was the second of eight children and was raised by his mom and stepfather Cecil Waters in Brawley.

Eddie Glen attended Brawley schools and was a member of the Brawley Union High School Class of 1960. Prior to graduation, Eddie joined the United States Army. He served his country from 1959-1962, as a Private First Class stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA, and Fort Richardson in Anchorage, AK.

After returning to the Imperial Valley, Eddie Glen met the love of his life, Linda Luana Ledyard at the El Oasis in Imperial, CA. Eddie and Luana were married on June 10, 1966. On August 26, 1967, their daughter Kimberli Rae was born.

Eddie Glen was always a hard worker. As a young teen, he started working for his stepdad Cecil driving tractors and bailing hay. In 1964, Eddie started working at Jordan Implement in the parts department. In the 1970's, he also worked part time for Herb Owens at D&H Body Shop as a tow truck driver and mechanic. Eddie worked his way up to Sales Manager for Jordan/Central Implement. He retired in 2004, after 40 years of service.

Eddie Glen always had a love for racing. He started drag racing in the mid-1960s. Some of his friends talked him into trying out the dirt oval tracks. He was hooked. Eddie Glen won his first championship in 1974 at Yuma Speedway. He also won a championship at the race track in Mexicali, Mexico. In the 1980s, Eddie tried his hand at off-road racing. He raced off-road for several years, participating in the SCORE racing series. Eddie Glen won his final championship racing in the IMCA Modified series. He was the 1992-1993 Modified Champion at Imperial Raceway. His last race was in 1994.

After retiring from racing, Eddie started collecting classic cars. He was a former member of the Sunrunners Car Club. He was also a member of the Desert Cruizers Car Club. He enjoyed attending car shows and hanging out with friends. Eddie enjoyed going fishing and dove hunting. Eddie also enjoyed going to NASCAR races all over the United States with his friends. Anywhere he went he made friends. He had so many adventures in his life and loved sharing those stories with anyone he met.

In 2023, Eddie and Luana moved to Kannapolis, NC, to be closer to their daughter. He was excited to live in Dale Earnhardt's hometown. He loved being right in the heart of NASCAR country. He loved going camping at the NASCAR races with his daughter, Kim, and son-in-law, Brian.

Eddie Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob and Ronald Reed; and sister, Cheryl Uscola.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Luana Reed; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Brian Roe of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Cody (Christine) Preece of San Antonio, TX; Miranda (Austin) Boylan of Cathedral City, CA; Briana (Nelson) Mustacchia of Dickson, TN; and Nathan Roe of Kannapolis, NC; great-grandchildren, Damien, Emerson, Nolan, and Colden Preece; Trace and Elaina Boylan; Harley and Hayden Mustacchia; brother Louis Waters (Robyn) of Rock Springs, WY; sisters, Judy (Guy) Fisher of Boise, ID; LeeAnn (Steve) Chigbrow of Paul, ID.; and Janice Morton of Oregon City, OR; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Luana and Kim, I've known you guys for many years, I raced against Eddie for somewhere around 20 years. I remember starting in a limited stock car then buying my first super stock car from Eddie. We raced many times in Yuma and mostly in Imperial. For all the years we raced against each other, Eddie is the only driver that I remember never having a conflict with. We had a lot of respect for each other and Eddie was a very clean driver. I remember several years where Eddie and I were separated by just a few points for the year end championship. I also remember Luana and Kim coming down to the race track after the races and thinking what a great supporting family he has. I am so sorry I couldn't make the funeral but on the same day I was in San Diego having surgery. I pray that GOD blesses you and pray that someday we will all be reunited. I'll never forget all the years I've known you guys and all the racing we did. Your Friend Forever, Steve Reeves

My condolences to Luana ,Kim and family - my first memory of Eddie was standing in front of the courthouse in El Centro and Eddie drives by in a brand new Red Grand Prix and of course he revved up the engine - later in the 80s we would race off-road always having a great time - a few years ago when I started building my 40 Ford he would stop by and check on the progress and give advice - Eddie was a true racer and hot rodder and great guy to boot RIP buddy
